Brian is headed south to the race start. Before he left, I was able to catch up with him and get some pre-race thoughts out of him!
He is ecstatic about how fundraising has gone. While he is not sure if he will clench this year's top spot, his last minute push has gotten him close to his goal. He is hoping that the final hours of his fundraiser will get him there! He has been surprised and stoked about all the support from everyone thus far.
Race wise, he has dialed in his nutrition and hydration for the race, selecting the right pack from REI. His training run with the pack put him in at about a 9 minute mile with water and food on board. He hopes that by bringing food, water, and electrolyte based hydration, he will avoid the energy crash he experienced around the 10 mile mark as a walker. Given his research, I think he will be successful in that.
For the race, his first goal is to prevent another injury. Working with that, he still hopes to be around a 9 minute mile, which will put him in the top 300. He admits he isn't as prepared as he wanted to be, but remained optimistic as always.
If you are interested in entering the raffle or supporting Brian, he is accepting donations until tonight!
Stay tuned for his post race report next week!
